We advance clean energy policy at the local, state, and national levels.
Informed by cutting-edge research and supported by real-world applications from energy efficiency practitioners, our policy work prioritizes equitable, realistic solutions.
Legislative work
CEE’s policy team has been at the forefront of crafting, modifying, and gaining consensus on key pieces of energy policy at the Minnesota state legislature, including the Energy Conservation and Optimization (ECO) Act and key updates to it that reflect our ever-changing energy landscape.
CEE’s policy team has also led efforts to inscribe market transformation into our state’s legislative priorities, leading to the creation of Minnesota’s Efficient Technology Accelerator, a statewide market transformation program that accelerates deployment and reduces the cost of emerging and innovative efficient technologies, bringing lower energy bills and environmental benefits to all Minnesotans.
Regulatory work
To create an energy efficient future that cost-effectively works for all Minnesotans while contributing to decarbonization efforts, we support a practical regulatory framework built on interconnected energy, economic, and environmental benefits for residential and commercial customers, utilities, and our communities.
Local policy
Rooted in CEE’s history of success with public-private partnerships, we help communities consider, explore, and implement policy steps that turn promise into practice. Our key local policy focuses include energy disclosure to drive residential energy retrofits by making home energy efficiency transparent at the time of sale, building benchmarking to reduce building-related pollution and waste while helping businesses thrive, and creating more sustainable buildings through practical and concise building energy codes.
