Recently, the City of Minneapolis started offering a bonus rebate program through CEE's lending department. These rebates will be layered on top of the already available utility rebates, making a sizable dent in the cost of energy efficiency upgrades for Minneapolis homeowners. This program is available city-wide to homeowners making energy upgrades, with a focus on helping residents in Minneapolis' Green Zones make their homes more efficient and effectively address environmental concerns in their neighborhood.
What is a Green Zone?
A Green Zone neighborhood in Minneapolis is an area with high levels of pollution and racial, political, and economic marginalization. Minneapolis has two areas that have been deemed Green Zones, the Northside Green Zone, which includes Hawthorne, McKinley, Near North, and parts of Bottineau, Sheridan, St. Anthony West, and Marshall Terrace, and Southside Green Zone, which includes the greater Phillips community and Cedar Riverside. This map shows the exact location of each Green Zone and the addresses within the boundaries.
The City's goal is to work with residents in these areas to achieve environmental justice by addressing environmental challenges and boosting the economy. To accomplish this, Minneapolis offers a variety of energy efficiency programs at a lower cost in these areas, including free Home Energy Squad visits or additional energy incentives like the Minneapolis Bonus Rebate.
Bonus Rebate Details
These bonus rebates will be available for insulation projects, air source heat pump (ASHP) and heat pump water heater installation, and furnace upgrades when made with an ASHP. To receive a rebate, the applicant must live in a 1–4 unit residential property in Minneapolis, they must have completed an eligible improvement (see table below) within the last 60 days, received a utility rebate, and the utility rebate plus the bonus rebate cannot exceed the total project costs.
Applicants living in a Green Zone can receive up to $14,000 in rebates, and all other applicants in Minneapolis can receive up to $5,000. Therefore, if you plan to complete multiple projects on the eligible improvements list, you are eligible to earn multiple bonus rebates up to $14,000 or $5,000.
How to Apply
You will apply for these bonus rebates through Center for Energy and Environment's lending team. If you have made one of these eligible improvements in the last 60 days or plan to make one of these improvements before the end of the year, visit CEE's Minneapolis Bonus Rebate Program page to learn more about the program terms and follow the application instructions.
